2006 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

October 31, 2006

This past year was another great one for the performing arts in our community!

Even though heavy rains washed out our July 5 Symphony Above the Clouds

performance, we still had an almost continuous string of events in the spring,

summer and fall by local community performing arts groups including the Jr.

Woodland Players, the Woodland Park Wind Symphony, Mountain Acoustic

Music Association, Woodland Music Series and the Cresson Dance Company

from Cripple Creek .  All events were well attended and thoroughly enjoyed.

In July, The Colorado Festival of World Theatre held ten days of performances in

the new Dickson Auditorium at the Woodland Park High School .  As you may

remember, this facility was partially funded by a large donation from the Dickson

Performing Arts Center .  From all reports, this 450 seat state-of-the art facility

more than met the approval of both the World Theatre performers and attendees.

As we complete 2006 and move forward to 2007, the Dickson Performing Arts Center plans to continue to provide and enhance opportunities for all members of our community to come together to develop, enjoy and share their talents in the performing arts.  In support of this mission, we used the proceeds from our 2005 Holiday Home Tour to help fund this year’s activities:

  • Our Community Funding Program provided $5,350 in financial donations to the Ute Pass Symphony Guild, Woodland Park High School Band, Cresson Dance Company, Mountain Acoustic Music Association, Woodland Music Series, Jr. Woodland Players and the Woodland Park Wind Symphony.
  • Our Marta Burg Dickson Scholarship Fund provided $3,000 for four $750 scholarships to Woodland Park High School graduates to further their performing arts education.

Plans are underway for our 2006 Sounds of the Season Holiday Home Tour scheduled for this December 2nd and 3rd.  Thanks to our sponsors and good attendance (even with 8” of new snow); our 2005 Holiday Home Tour netted over $7,300, providing needed funds for the ongoing support of Dickson Performing Arts Center ’s activities in the community.  The 2006 Home Tour Committee is hard at work handling all of the details make this year’s event even more successful.  Please try to join us!

Thank you for all of your past support; we at the Dickson Performing Arts Center hope we can continue to partner with you and many others in our community to make Woodland Park and Teller County a place well-known for its support of the performing arts.

2005 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

October 20, 2005

What a year for the performing arts in our community!  During the spring, summer and early fall, there have been almost a continuous string of events by local community arts groups including the annual July 5 Symphony Above the Clouds Concert; performances by the Jr. Woodland Players, the Woodland Park Wind Symphony, Hausmusik, Mountain Acoustic Music Association; and, the Colorado Festival of World Theatre held two weeks of theatre performances in a large tent in downtown Woodland Park.  So, 2005 has been a great year for the arts and 2006 promises to be even better.

During the over six years since the Dickson Performing Arts Center was established, this IRS 501c(3) non-profit organization of volunteers has been working to raise the awareness of the performing arts in our community and provide monetary support to arts organizations and students.  In addition, a substantial amount of donated capital funds, a baby grand piano and two electric keyboards were given to the Woodland Park RE-2 School District to enhance the just completed Dickson Auditorium at the high school.  Funds from the Dickson Performing Arts Center and other community donors have truly made the new 450 seat auditorium a state-of-the-art performance facility.  Everyone is excited about the future of this facility and what it will mean for the performing arts in our schools and in our community.  The names of donors, including those who gave money through the Dickson Performing Arts Center , are recognized on a beautiful donor wall in the entrance vestibule of the auditorium.

As we complete 2005 and move forward to 2006, the Dickson Performing Arts Center plans to continue to provide and enhance opportunities for all members of our community to come together to develop, enjoy and share their talents in the performing arts.  In support of this mission, we used some of the proceeds from our 2004 Holiday Home Tour to help fund this year’s activities:

Our Community Funding Program provided $5,000 in financial grants to the Ute Pass Symphony Guild, Hausmusik, Woodland Park Wind Symphony, Mountain Acoustic Music Association, Colorado Festival of World Theatre and the Jr. Woodland Players.
About $2,000 in continuing funding was provided to our Marta Dickson Scholarship Fund which provided four $500 scholarships to Woodland Park High School graduates to further their performing arts education.
A $1,600 grant was made to the Woodland Park High School Vocal Music Department for the purpose of paying royalties on a license to perform the 2005 fall musical “Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat”.  This will be the first musical to be performed in the new Dickson Auditorium.

DPAC members also attended and volunteered time to assist the Ute Pass Symphony Guild, Jr. Woodland Players, Hausmusik and the Colorado Festival of World Theatre.

Plans are underway for our 2005 Sounds of the Season Holiday Home Tour scheduled for December 3rd and 4th.  Thanks to terrific sponsors and a great attendance, our 2004 Holiday Home Tour netted over $9,400, providing needed funds for the ongoing support of Dickson Performing Arts Center’s activities in the community.  The 2005 Home Tour Committee is hard at work handling all of the details to make this year’s event even more successful.  Please try to join us!

Thank you for all of your past support; we at the Dickson Performing Arts Center hope we can continue to partner with you and many others in our community to make Woodland Park and Teller County a place well-known for its support of the performing arts.

2004 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

October 1, 2004

So much is happening in our community!  A new look downtown – including the completion of landscaping/streetscape improvements to U.S. Highway 24, plans for enhanced performing arts offerings through the Colorado Festival of World Theatre, and a substantial remodeling and expansion of our own Woodland Park High School, including the construction of its first ever auditorium.

As you may remember, Dickson Performing Arts Center was formed over five years ago in response to a dream expressed by the student members of the Woodland Park High School Key Club – to have a quality home for the performing arts in our schools.  Adult members of the community came together and working through DPAC launched both awareness and capital campaigns to help Woodland Park RE-2 create such a facility.  Thanks to your continued interest and generosity, the original dream of a quality home for the performing arts is about to become reality!

In November 2003, voters passed a bond issue to provide funding for Woodland Park RE-2 to expand its buildings to better meet the needs of our students.  A part of that expansion is the exciting 450 seat high school auditorium, equipped to meet the needs of the school district . . . and our community as a whole!

Dickson Performing Arts Center, using the donations provided by you and many others, has committed $180,000 for enhancements to the auditorium, including funding for a larger stage, an orchestra pit, and enhanced sound system.  In addition, a baby grand piano donated by Marlo and Jean Burg, parents of the late Marta Burg Dickson, was presented by DPAC to Woodland Park RE-2 for use in the auditorium.  This new auditorium, to be named the Dickson Auditorium, will be under construction for the next year, with opening planned for the fall of 2005.

What is the future for The Dickson Performing Arts Center, Inc. as we move toward the completion of the Dickson Auditorium?  Our plans are to continue working in our community encouraging performing artists in our schools and community, as well as supporting our new friends such as the Colorado Festival of World Theatre.  Our mission:  to provide and enhance opportunities for all members of our community to come together to develop, enjoy and share their talents in the performing arts!

In support of this mission, we used some of the proceeds from our 2003 Holiday Home Tour, to help fund this year’s activities:

Our Community Funding Program provided financial grants to the Ute Pass Symphony Guild and the Woodland Park Jr. Players.
Over $2,000 in continuing funding was provided to our Marta Dickson Scholarship Fund which provided four $500 scholarships to Woodland Park High School graduates to further their performing arts education.
Two Yamaha stage pianos have been purchased and will be donated to Woodland Park RE-2 for both school and community use.

DPAC members also attended and volunteered time to assist the Ute Pass Symphony Guild, Woodland Park Jr. Players and Colorado Festival of World Theatre with their 2004 performing arts productions.

Plans are underway for our 2004 Sounds of the Season Holiday Home Tour scheduled for December 4th and 5th.  Thanks to terrific sponsors and a great attendance, our 2003 Holiday Home Tour netted over $11,000, providing needed funds for the ongoing support of Dickson Performing Arts Center’s activities in the community.  The 2004 Home Tour committee is hard at work handling all of the details to make this year’s event even more successful.  Please try to join us!

Thank you for all your past support; we at Dickson Performing Arts Center hope we can continue to partner with you and many others in our community to make Woodland Park and Teller County a place well-known for its support of the arts.
