2007 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

October 27, 2007

This year was another great one for the performing arts in our community!  During the spring, summer and early fall, there was almost a continuous string of events by local community arts groups including the annual July 5 Symphony Above the Clouds Concert; performances by the Jr. Woodland Players, the Woodland Park Wind Symphony, Mountain Acoustic Music Association, Woodland Music Series; and, the Cresson Dance Company from Cripple Creek.  All events were well attended and thoroughly enjoyed.

In September, the Colorado Festival of World Theatre held ten days of theatre performances in the Colorado Springs area with three performances in the Dickson Auditorium at the Woodland Park High School .  As you may remember, this facility was partially funded by a large donation from the Dickson Performing Arts Center.

As we complete 2007 and move forward to 2008, the Dickson Performing Arts Center plans to continue to provide and enhance opportunities for all members of our community to come together to develop, enjoy and share their talents in the performing arts.  In support of this mission, we used the proceeds from our 2006 Holiday Home Tour to help fund this year’s activities:

  • Our Community Funding Program provided $5,000 in financial donations to the Ute Pass Symphony Guild, Woodland Music Series, Woodland Park Wind Symphony, Mountain Acoustic Music Association, Jr. Woodland Players, Rampart Rock’n Jazz, Woodland Park Community Singers,  Ute Pass Family Theatre, and the Cresson Dance Company.
  • Continuing funding in the amount of $3,000 was provided to our Marta Dickson Scholarship Fund which provided four $750 scholarships to Woodland Park High School graduates to further their performing arts education.

Plans are underway for our 2007 Sounds of the Season Holiday Home Tour scheduled for December 1st and 2nd.   Thanks to terrific sponsors and a good attendance (even with a snow storm on Saturday); our 2006 Holiday Home Tour netted over $6,300, providing needed funds for the ongoing support of Dickson Performing Arts Center ’s activities in the community.  The 2007 Home Tour Committee is hard at work handling all of the details to make this year’s event even more successful.  Please try to join us!

Thank you for all of your past support; we at the Dickson Performing Arts Center hope we can continue to partner with you and many others in our community to make Woodland Park and Teller County a place well-known for its support of the performing arts.

As we will continue to keep in touch with you, please keep in touch with us!  Visit our website at www.dicksoncenter.org for information about upcoming projects and programs, and to make a gift to help fund the performing arts in our community.  Don’t forget to sign up at our website for the Kroger Company’s Cares program – every purchase you make at any City Market, King Soopers, Dillons or Fry’s grocery stores, supports the Dickson Performing Arts Center.
